Maastricht is typically not the first European destination on tourists’ tongues. Roughly three hundred and sixty-some days a year, this municipality in the Netherlands is left to its inhabitants. But once every year it becomes the number one place to be for art and antiques collectors in the know. The European Fine Art Foundation, also known as TEFAF, will open its doors in the city on March 15. Since 1988, the fair, generally accepted to present the finest, rarest, and most stringently vetted art and design in the world, has shown collectors and burgeoning dealers what it really means to be an expert.
