Significant sale to the National Portrait Gallery

Lady Anne Clifford, Countess of Dorset by William Larkin

The Weiss Gallery is thrilled to have sold a long lost portrait of Lady Anne Clifford, Countess of Dorset by William Larkin to the National Portrait Gallery, London. Anne Clifford's tenacious battle to inherit her family’s vast estates in the 17th century, has made her a modern feminist icon. She commissioned the portrait from Larkin, one of the most fashionable artists of the Jacobean era, and mentioned it in her diary.

The Weiss Gallery is pleased to announce a collaborative project with The Tudor Tailor to celebrate the launch of The Tudor Child - a sumptuously illustrated book offering a detailed insight into sixteenth century clothing for infants, young children and youths. The Tudor Tailor is a team of dress historians and costumiers, which publishes accurate and accessible scholarship on historic clothing. The work investigates how Tudor children’s clothing demonstrated their place in society and signalled their growing maturity.
