"Courting Favour: From Elizabeth I to James I" - An Exhibition of Tudor & Jacobean Portraits, 26th June - 14th July 2017

To coincide with this year’s London Art Week, 30th June - 7th July 2017, The Weiss Gallery is holding an exhibition dedicated to Tudor and Jacobean court portraiture, entitled: Courting Favour: From Elizabeth I to James I.

The centerpiece of the show will be a beautiful portrayal of the youthful Queen Elizabeth I, a bust-length version of the magnificent 'Hampden' fulllength, currently on loan to Tate Britain. Displayed either side of the Queen will be portraits of her two great favourites Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester and Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex.

At TEFAF Maastricht, the world’s greatest art and antiques fair, you can buy masterpieces of art, antiques and design from 275 of the world's most prestigious dealers. Following a successful 2015, The Weiss Gallery - leading dealer in Tudor, Stuart and North European Old Master portraiture - returns to TEFAF in Maastricht (10 - 19 March 2017) with several new exciting discoveries, including works by Frans Pourbus the Younger, Paulus Moreelse, and Michaelina Wautier. 

Guinevere Antiques Pop-Up Showroom at The Weiss Gallery

A special announcement: Established on the King’s Road in 1963, Guinevere is opening a pop-up showroom at The Weiss Gallery from 26th July to 10th September 2016. Owners Marc and Kevin Weaver and their team are masters in the art of creating magical and inspiring displays with their unique antique furniture, textiles and decorative accessories. Introducing some of their recent finds to our Central London location, there will be 67 square metres to explore and discover in this exclusive gallery space.

The Weiss Gallery 30th Anniversary Exhibition - 'Cornelius Johnson: Painter to King & Country'
Mark Weiss, London’s leading specialist in Tudor, Stuart and Northern European portraiture, will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening of his first gallery in London with a special exhibition, ‘Cornelius Johnson: Painter to King & Country’, which will run from 30th June to 15th July in his Jermyn Street gallery. The exhibition will be the first ever large-scale show dedicated to Johnson’s work, an artist whose paintings are familiar to many due to the numerous portraits that hang in notable private and public collections, both in the UK and internationally.

'Of Royal & Noble Descent' An Exhibition at Sotheby's London, 14 - 18 January 2016

The Weiss Gallery will be loaning six paintings for an exhibition concerning exquisite costumes in Old Master paintings at Sotheby's London (34-35 New Bond Street). The exhibition 'Of Royal & Noble Descent' will present works once owned by Europe's royal and aristocratic families alongside specially commissioned pieces by the paper artist Zoe Bradley. The exhibition, lasting from 14th to 18th January, coincides with a sale of the same name at Sotheby's on 19th January. 

The Weiss Gallery at Paris Tableau 2015

The Weiss Gallery will be participating in the fourth instalment of Paris Tableau - the World's only art fair dedicated to Old Master paintings. The gallery will be exhibiting a selection of works by Frans Pourbus the Younger alongside other recent acqusitions, such as an elegant pair of aristocratic children, painted by stylish French painter Henri Gascars, who were possibly the illegitimate children of James VII and II and Arabella Churchill, namely James and Henry FitzJames.

Following a successful debut in 2014, The Weiss Gallery - leading dealer in Tudor, Stuart and North European Old Master portraiture - is delighted to return to Frieze Masters this year, from 14-18 October 2015. The World Turn’d Upside Down is one of the extraordinary pieces The Weiss Gallery will bring to Frieze Masters. This early eighteenth-century painting depicts a world where traditional order is subverted; the heavens are found on earth and earth becomes heaven. It is, quite literally the world ‘turn’d upside down’.

From Merchants to Monarchs: Frans Pourbus the Younger

The Weiss Gallery will be participating in London Art Week, which takes place from 3-10 July 2015, and looks forward to welcoming collectors to our Jermyn Street premises. The gallery will be exhibiting a remarkable collection of seven portraits by Frans Pourbus the Younger - court portraitist of the Hapsburgs, Medicis, and Bourbons.
